As a parent, you know just how disturbing it is to have kids who cry a lot, thanks to the nature of some infants who often cry and wail in the house. Naturally, such parents get fed up and look for alternatives to soothe their kids and for some parents, a popular alternative is taking such infants on a car ride.
While it may be a good idea to soothe your crying babies via a car ride, you need to be mindful of certain things, especially if they tend to fall asleep right away. “Babies are fragile,” Says the manager of auto safety for Consumer Reports, Emily Thomas. “Infants have heavy heads and very weak necks. They can not sustain on their own for an extended period of time.” Furthermore, she argues that infants constantly need the support of their parents as they can not fend for themselves. In most cases, they can not even sleep without the support of their parents.
This is why parents must not leave their babies alone in car seats. Emily suggests that parents constantly look out for their babies and pull the car over every now and then to make sure that the baby does not fall asleep. Likewise, the parents can also gently ease the seats of the car to properly adjust the baby. It is pertinent to note here that proper positioning of your baby is also crucial; in other words, ensure that your kid is seated properly so that he/she will not fall to their side.
Look for Alternatives to A Car Ride
Car rides are by no means the only way to soothe a crying infant. Rather, there are many alternatives that parents can look up to calm their babies down. Be it a gentle walk in the nearest park or a stroll outside, you can soothe your little one without going for a car ride.
Here are some effective alternatives to soothing car rides:
- Engaging the baby with toys and dolls in the house.
- A gentle walk outdoors.
- Moving the baby in a stroller, either in the house or in the neighborhood.
- Watching cartoons at home.
Keep in mind that babies always make a habit of what you allow them to do. For example, if you take them for a drive whenever they cry, they will always expect such treatment whenever they are in a foul mood. And thus, there will be no other effective way to soothe the baby. On the other hand, if you adopt alternative soothing methods, the babies will imprint them in their minds too. Consequently, you can quieten them down without feeling the need for a car ride.
That being said, by no means are we suggesting that you don't take your babies for a car ride. Rather, if you think they need a quick drive to get their fix, ensure that you are acutely aware of the safety risks and so, make a foolproof safety plan and make sure that your baby is safe and is not left alone for an extended period of time.
