Among the thousands of fitness questions posted on social media every day, a common one is, "what should I eat before a morning workout session?" Some specialists suggest people should drink a glass of water, some say they should have a proper meal, and others believe either one's perfect.
Unlike them, celebrity trainer Ash Scarrott says having a power-packed meal before a morning workout is best for the body. He believes that a good breakfast fuels the body and provides ample energy for the workout session.
If you're wondering what's his go-to pre-workout breakfast, don't stress yourself, we have just the right answer for you.
Ash Scarrott's Pre-Workout Breakfast
Do you think Scarrott eats a fancy meal with eggs, bacon, and some waffles? Nada! He prefers oats, protein, fruit, creatine, and caffeine over any other thing. The young trainer explains he blends a three-fourth cup of oatmeal, one full banana, a cup of berries, one scoop of Whey Protein Isolate (WPI), 1 or 2 espresso shots, and five gms of creatine monohydrate and has the mixture for breakfast.
What does each of those elements do?
Scarrott's breakfast is not only tasty but also healthy. Each element in it has a unique function. The trainer says oatmeal is the perfect slow-digesting carbohydrate. It keeps him full for long and gives his body enough energy for the workouts. On the other hand, berries and bananas provide some extra carbs and enhance the taste of the meal. They also help in reducing inflammation and provide instant energy for intense workouts.
Speaking about WPI, Scarrott said it's a fast-digesting protein that doesn't make him feel sluggish or bloated while exercising. He added that he doesn't prefer feeling heavy or tired while working out, which happens if he has whole food protein. He continued that espresso shots not only make the mixture tastier but also keep him focused all along. At times, when he feels certain exercises are not necessary, the coffee keeps his mind straight and pushes him to do it.
Last but not least, creatine monohydrate is a must in all his breakfasts. It adds that X factor to his muscles and keeps them lean. Scarrott says that anybody serious about training should consume this compound.
A few alternatives!
#Tip 1
We totally get it that waking up early and preparing breakfast isn't everyone's cup of coffee. But who said you have to do it in the morning, you can also do it the previous night! If you're preparing the mix at night, avoid adding the fruits. Follow the drill mentioned above and keep the mixture in the fridge. When you wake up in the morning, add the fruits and gulp it down.
#Tip 2
You can simply grab a protein bar with espresso shots and creatine if you don't like the whole oatmeal thing. Once you are done with your session, you can have a proper breakfast. You can stick to plain black coffee without milk and sweeteners for those who don't have an espresso machine at home.
