The key to adopting healthy habits is to go slow and remain consistent for the habits to work their magic. You will see the hard work and time you put in pay off along the journey and as you grow older. Researchers at Harvard conducted a study that revealed that adopting even a single good habit drastically decreases the risk of early death. Let’s look at some habits you can adopt or give up to lead a healthier life.

Be Active

Exercising offers numerous health benefits; if you choose to exercise outdoors, maybe in a green space, going out positively impacts your brain activity. Working out can elevate your mood and prevent you from getting chronic illnesses such as heart diseases, diabetes, etc. If you choose not to do strenuous exercises, even walking is great. You can start off by walking for 15 minutes. Over time, you can increase it according to your capacity.

Eat Smarter

Switching to healthier options and avoiding unhealthy carbs is the best way to stay in shape or get back in shape. Fill your meals with fruits, whole grains, nuts, veggies, omega-3, and good fats. Avoid eating processed or packaged foods. Instead, introduce fresh produce into your diet.

Stay In Shape

According to AARP, women should have a waist of fewer than 35 inches and for men, it should be less than 40 inches. It is easier to gain weight as you grow old. Also, while you’re gaining weight, there exist high risks of getting ill. As you grow up, your calorie requirements reduce so you should alter your eating habits accordingly. Failing to change your eating habit may result in you gaining extra pounds!

Switch To Moderate Drinking

Drinking is the main cause of many diseases as it causes addiction. AARP suggests limiting the intake of alcohol to one drink for women and two for men in a day. If you consume more than this, it will shorten your life expectancy.

Sleep Well

Sleep deprivation is linked to serious chronic conditions, such as diabetes, heart diseases, and obesity. Getting enough sleep is as important as consuming a healthy diet.

Quit Smoking

Smoking is equal to puffing poison as it causes harm to your body as well as to the people around you. According to a study, each cigarette takes away 11 minutes of your life. Each time you smoke a cigarette, the toxic carbon monoxide travels through your bloodstream, harming every single organ in your body.
